MilliporeSigma investing $115m in new North American hub
According to the company, the $115 million building will be LEED certified and includes an opportunity to expand an additional 70,000 square feet.
Chris Ross, Executive Vice President, Integrated Supply Chain Operations at MilliporeSigma, told us, "We chose the Burlington site because we envisioned a campus where our Billerica-based employees could come together in one state-of-the-art location."
The campus will include a customer service and call center, and an M Lab™ Collaboration Center. The trademarked M Lab is a shared environment which, according to the company, allows MilliporeSigma scientists and engineers to work collaboratively with customers.
"Demand for a collaborative approach to problem-solving was a big factor in why we created a unique space that provides cross-functional collaboration labs and training centers to provide instruction to our partners and customers," said Ross.
"Further, it will enable the exploration of new technologies and solutions to address development and manufacturing challenges," he added.
Upon completion in the second half of 2017, the center will be one of nine across the world. Other locations will include Brazil, China, France, India, Singapore, and South Korea.
The new M Lab™ Collaboration Center in Burlington will replace the company’s Billerica-based lab.
The 850 full-time employees currently at the Billerica lab will relocate to the new campus when construction is completed in the second half of 2017.
MilliporeSigma will maintain its other North American life science hub in St. Louis, Missouri.
