Micro-Matrix: a scale down system for lab scale microbial cultures

Biological product engineering relies on selecting the best performing microbial strain and finding optimal culture conditions. The screening for these strains and conditions requires a large number of experiments.

In order to speed up this screening process, small-scale devices with high-throughput are needed. Micro-Matrix is a such a platform that holds 24 micro-bioreactors with individual control of temperature, pH and dissolved oxygen, liquid and gas addition. The system is designed and tested to give similar performance as a standard 3 liter laboratory scale fermenter.
