Rabbit
The use of transgenic mice by scientists to discover antibody drugs is well documented, but - slightly larger and fluffier - rabbits are also used by the industry.
One company – Cell Signalling Technology (CST) – recently launched a new HER3 rabbit monoclonal antibody for researchers studying HER2-mediated tumours, and told this publication the use of rabbits results in “cleaner, more specific experimental results than would be possible with a mouse antibody.”
Furthermore, rabbit MAbs avoid background issues well known when using mouse antibodies for immunohistochemistry, CST spokesman David Freeman told us in September.
