SAFC, the custom manufacturing wing of global healthcare giant Sigma Aldritch, has announced the launch of raw materials and custom services specifically developed for point-of-care (POC) diagnostics manufacture.

The company says the diverse product offer is designed to “meet the demands of the burgeoning POC testing diagnostics market,” and provides a wide range of raw materials and custom manufacturing solutions for both self-test and over-the-counter (OTC) diagnostic kits, as well as professional POC diagnostics.

“Through meeting both the OTC and professional POC customer requirements in terms of breadth of product, quality systems and supply chain management, we aim to ensure security and supply for the POC analyte market,” said George Crowell, SAFC diagnostics segment manager.

Expanded capabilities

SAFC recently expanded its manufacturing capabilities in Europe after securing ISO 13485 certification for its facility in Buchs, Switzerland.

This new offer, says the company, is targeted at alleviating industry concerns over the security of supply in both the growing diabetes care and professional POC markets.

It claims to provide “an entire spectrum of critical raw materials for use not only in glucose monitoring devices, but also for continuous monitoring diabetes care, HbA1C assays, urinary protein assays and creatine assays.”

Leading provider

In a statement released yesterday, SAFC said this new offer helped add to its reputation as a leading provider of raw materials to the diagnostics market, including cell culture products, enzymes, buffers, detergents, carbohydrates and “high speciality products” such as its proprietary ProClin biocides, designed for in vitro diagnostics use.

Crowell said the announcement cemented SAFC’s place as an industry leader in the biologics sector, helping it stand out from the crowd in an increasingly competitive market.
