Qiagen launches automated purification kits

Qiagen has released two protein purification kits that provide
affordable automation as a way to increase throughput and free up
valuable manpower for less routine tasks.

With the launch of BioSprint 15 Ni-NTA and Strep-Tactin kits, Qiagen claim to provide an affordable solution for automated purification of recombinant proteins. Both kits are claimed to save time and effort by providing fast purification of high-purity 6xHis- or Strep-tagged recombinant proteins, ready to use in any downstream application.

Both kits are designed to be used with the BioSprint 15 platform - a stand-alone instrument with a small footprint that enables automated parallel purification of up to fifteen high-purity protein samples from prokaryotic or eukaryotic cell lysates.

The BioSprint 15 Strep-Tactin kit uses magnetic-bead technology for Strep-tagged protein purification from prokaryotic or eukaryotic cell lysates. The workstation controls an array of magnetic rods that can attract or release magnetic beads and transfer them from tube to tube.

The sequential transfer of magnetic beads allows a rapid purification procedure to be performed, from the initial binding of protein to the particles, through to washing of the particles and elution of pure protein. Since the workstation transfers magnetic beads instead of liquids, it uses minimal amounts of reagents, enabling cost-efficient sample preparation.

BioSprint 15 Strep-Tactin kits therefore allow a procedure that can purify up to 100 µg protein per sample in less than 45 minutes. Since the workstation transfers magnetic beads instead of liquids it uses minimal amounts of reagents, enabling cost-efficient sample preparation.

Similarly, the BioSprint 15 Ni-NTA Kit uses magnetic-bead technology for 6xHis-tagged protein purification from prokaryotic or eukaryotic cell lysates. The workstation controls an array of magnetic rods that can attract or release magnetic beads and transfer them from tube to tube.

The features of the Ni-NTA and Strep-Tactin Kit make them useful in a range of downstream applications, including, structural and functional investigations, activity-based assays, protein-protein and protein-nucleic acid interaction assays and immunisation to produce antibodies
